About the Consumer Affairs Department

Focus

To fulfill the Government’s commitment of eradicating poverty and improving the quality of life of consumers through the promotion of their awareness, rights, and protection.

Objectives

Promoting awareness of issues affecting consumers in the marketplace and educating them on their rights and responsibilities

Monitoring complaints for violations in the marketplace

Liaising with the CARICOM Secretariat in providing a current and harmonized consumer protection legislation which will safeguard the interests of the Caribbean consumer.

Enforcing fair and consumer-friendly business practices that encourage and educate businesses to comply with the Consumer Protection Act (CPA)

Assessing Standard Form Contracts to ensure that the terms are fair and do not create a significant imbalance in the rights of consumers and businesses
